Kakharu Phula Bara

Peep into any odia kitchen at lunch you will surely find an unique recipe from any part of the pumpkin plant it may be the fruit, stem, leaves and flowers.

A must side dish in every odia home.Be it with traditional Pakhala or hot steamed rice nothing beats the all time favourite Pumpkin flower fritters.Its tastes amazing and is very easy to make.A very simple,easy and tasty dish coming right up.

Ingredients:

  • 6 pumpkin flowers (stalk removed and cleaned)
  • 4 tbsp rice powder
  • 2 tbsp besan
  • Salt to taste
  • Chilly powder
  • Zeera 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • Oil for Shallow frying

Procedure:

  • Wash and remove all the parts of the flowers except for the petals.
  • Mix besan, two spoons of rice powder and all the spices into a smooth paste of medium consitency.
  • Heat a non-stick pan. Add little oil.
  • Hold two of the pumpkin flowers together and dip into the batter. Put it on the pan.
  • Repeat with the remaining flowers.
  • Cook on one side till crisp and reddish. Flip over, spray a little oil and cook the other side till reddish.
  • Serve hot with hot steam rice or Pakhala.
